Welcome to Plettenberg Bay……….HEAVENS PLAYGROUND!!!!

One of the most scenic stretches of coastline anywhere in the world lies just 400kms east of Cape Town and is internationally known as THE GARDEN ROUTE.

Plettenberg Bay, the jewel of the Garden Route,is a premier destination in South Africa. It offers sweeping unspoilt beaches, lagoons, estuaries, indigenous forests, cape flora, unpolluted rivers, the Robberg Peninsula and a colourful history.

It has an abundance of bird life and is home to the great sea mammals, whales and dolphins. The Big Five can now be viewed at Game Parks and sanctuaries within a 30 kms radius of the town and newly developed vineyards provide for Plettenberg Bays own unique wines. Over 300 days of sunshine per year, an average summer temperature of 27 and winter temperatures rarely below 10 degrees centigrade, provide the perfect environment , all year round, for the many visitors and residents of Plettenberg Bay.

Being a coastal town Plettenberg Bay can offer the water sport enthusiast many hours of enjoyment, not only with our beautiful beaches but also the lagoon and the Keurbooms and Bitou Rivers.

Whales and dolphins can be observed in their natural habitat. This can be done with supervised boat tours, scuba diving or just from the beach.

The Keurbooms river forms part of the Keurbooms Nature Reserve and the Bitou offers one of the most diverse concentrations of bird species per hectare in the world.

Other spectacular Reserves in the area include Robberg Peninsular, Harkerville Forest, Tsitsikamma, Storms River and Natures Valley.

Hiking is possible on these reserves and trails vary in difficulty. Information can be obtained from Cape Nature offices in Plettenberg Bay.Monkey Land and Birds of Eden are unique sanctuaries where the emphasis is on free living in a natural habitat. The Bird sanctuary is a 2 hectare dome, the largest of its kind in the world!

The Elephant Sanctuary  offers the opportunity to interact with the elephants. The focus is on education and a hands on experience where you are encouraged to walk, touch and even ride the elephants

As mentioned before, Plettenberg Bay really does have an amazing variety of sanctuaries non more impressive than the Cheetah and Wild Cat rehabilitation centre. Once again education is the emphasis and much can be learned about these graceful creatures.

On other Game Farms in the area one can get up close and personal with other Big Five game, including rhinos, lions, and  buffalo. Naturally here Zebras and many species of large and small buck can be seen. Game drives and other activities are available here.

There are a great many sporting activities. Plettenberg Bay has a Country Club where tennis, bowls and of course Golf may be played. Goose Valley ( a Gary Player Signature Course) is also popular amongst visitors and residents alike. Polo is a fairly new sport to the area. An international tournament is hosted yearly, at the end of the year.

For the more adventurous there is black water tubing, tree top canopy rides and the worlds highest Bungi jump.

And when you have experienced just some of what Plettenberg Bay has to offer… then relax with a glass of locally produced wine and watch the sun go down over the sea and mountains… you’ll think you are in heaven!!!!
